Spring Equinox

And out of hibernation... having made a living willow dome in my garden.

The winter has finally given way to sunny days of spring and I feel like going back out to look at the shed at last! I've not really been out there for quite a while and have started my nagging campaign to get the electrics sorted.

I need the space to work! Mosaics and willow and plaster! All currently on my dining table, we're eating off our knees and balancing drinks while my art work overtakes my house...

THE BIG DRAW

The big draw was a great success, we did big black drawings, little finger print drawings, lots of colouring in.

Then the outreach session went really well, I took some insects from the musuem collection that the children loved. I need to learn sign language to communicate properly.

Autumnal things

Creating mixtures with Damsons, Blackberries, Apples & Sugar, other creations with Sloes, sugar & yeast, and cutting our carbon emissions with walking. Life is better with no car. How wonderful is the view near where I live. Life is at a slower pace.

Artemisia Gentileschi - Self Portrait as an Allegory of Painting

gentileschi_allegoria.jpg

For the Raison D'Etre Theatre Company's play Taliswoman, based on the life of Artemisia, I have been given the Allegory of Painting to interpret. I could use a piece of work I've already made, but the urge to make something new is strong, so using some of the symbolism, the golden mask pendant, the loose strands of hair and the colours of her dress. Along with the story of her torture using the sibille around her fingers and her cries to Agostini of "Is this the ring you promised me?" I think I can make a new piece of work.

The work will be displayed in the Guildhall in Leicester in November alongside a symposium of artists and its my first work as an artist that is paying me. I've had paid work as a community artist, but not for my own work.
